Chapter 14 - The Fall of the Matriarch

"Vance, how many rounds do you have?" Christopher whispered behind the stone hearth, glass crunching under his boots.
"Two magazines. Twelve rounds each," Vance replied, peering cautiously around the corner of the fireplace. "State police tactical reinforcements are fifteen minutes out by helicopter. We have to buy time."
"She doesn't want the house. She wants the children," Christopher said. "If they breach the barn before the choppers arrive, it’s over. We draw them inside."
Christopher stood up, stepping deliberately into the center of the ruined living room, raising his voice so it echoed out through the blown-out windows.
"I'm right here, Mother!" Christopher yelled. "Tell your men to stop shooting!"
The gunfire ceased instantly.
The front door was kicked wide open. Two mercenary gun barrels aimed directly at Christopher’s chest as Estelle stepped across the threshold, her designer heels crunching on the broken glass.
"Look at you," Estelle sneered, stepping into the ruined room, her face twisted in triumphant malice. "The grand heir to Pierce Global, standing in the rubble of a peasant farmhouse. Where are the brats, Christopher? Where is the girl, and where is the boy Rachel thought she could hide from me?"
"You knew about Leo," Christopher said, keeping his hands visible, his eyes locked onto her face.
"Of course I knew," Estelle laughed, a chilling, shrill sound. "My private investigator found Sarah’s tax records three months ago. I was waiting until I dealt with Emma before cleaning up the boy. But you forced my hand, Christopher. You made a public spectacle of this family."
"You murdered Rachel," Christopher said, taking half a step toward her. "You tried to drown Emma. And now you’ve come to kill your own grandson. All for pieces of paper and bank accounts."
"This family’s empire was built on blood, discipline, and absolute control!" Estelle snarled, pulling a small silver pistol from her coat pocket and aiming it directly between Christopher’s eyes. "Rachel was a bug. Emma was a mistake. And you... you are the greatest disappointment of my life. I don't need your signature anymore. Once you and the children are dead, the entire estate reverts automatically to the offshore family foundation I control."
She cocked the hammer.
"Goodbye, Christopher."
Before she could pull the trigger, the low, deafening roar of twin jet engines shook the entire farmhouse.
A State Police tactical Black Hawk helicopter dropped out of the fog directly above the orchard, its massive searchlight illuminating the living room with the blinding brightness of a miniature sun.
"Federal and State Police! Drop your weapons and get on the ground immediately!" the helicopter's public address system thundered through the storm.
The two mercenaries hesitated, blinded by the million-candlepower spotlight pouring through the roof and windows.
Christopher lunged.
He knocked Estelle’s arm upward as the pistol discharged, the bullet embedding harmlessly into the wooden ceiling. He wrenched the gun from her grasp, twisting her wrist until she screamed in agony, slamming her down onto the hardwood floor.
At the same second, Vance fired two double-taps from behind the fireplace, taking down both mercenaries before they could acquire a target in the blinding glare.
Tactical officers in black armor poured through the front and rear doors, weapons raised, securing the perimeter in less than five seconds.
Estelle lay pinned beneath Christopher’s knee, her silver hair tangled in broken glass, her aristocratic veneer utterly obliterated.
"You can't do this to me!" she shrieked, spitting blood and saliva onto the floorboards. "I am Estelle Pierce! I own this state! I own you!"
Christopher looked down at her with pure, unadulterated coldness.
May you like
"You own nothing," Christopher whispered. "Not this company. Not this family. Not even your own freedom."
He stood up, stepping back as federal marshals clamped heavy steel cuffs around Estelle's wrists, dragging her out into the rain.
