Chapter 11: The Price of Redemption

Michael lunged toward Emily.

Sarah tackled Victoria as the gunmen scattered beneath falling glass.

Thomas fired again, forcing Julian away from the child.

Michael grabbed Emily and pulled her behind a marble column.

“Stay down.”

Julian recovered his gun.

He aimed at Thomas.

“You old fool.”

Thomas looked at Michael.

There was no fear in his eyes.

Only apology.

Julian fired.

Thomas staggered.

Michael shouted.

Federal agents crashed through the doors seconds later.

Laura had traced Thomas’s hidden phone after discovering he had left the hospital.

Gunfire erupted.

Julian escaped through a concealed passage.

Victoria was arrested.

Sarah crawled toward Thomas.

Blood soaked his shirt.

Michael pressed his hands against the wound.

“Stay with me.”

Thomas coughed.

“I couldn’t let him take another child from you.”

“You weren’t supposed to come.”

“I know.”

Michael’s voice cracked.

“You never listen.”

Thomas smiled faintly.

“Runs in the family.”

Paramedics carried him out.

Meanwhile, firefighters rescued Nurse Ramirez from the farmhouse moments before the roof collapsed.

At the hospital, Thomas underwent another surgery.

This time, the damage was severe.

Michael waited outside with Sarah and Emily.

Sarah watched him pace.

“You still love him.”

Michael stopped.

“I don’t know what I feel.”

“You can hate what someone did and still love who they were to you.”

Michael looked through the glass at his father.

“I lost so much because of him.”

“So did he.”

Michael turned sharply.

Sarah continued.

“He made a terrible choice. But Julian and Victoria built an empire on destroying families. Thomas came back to save ours.”

The surgeon emerged.

“He survived the procedure, but his heart is failing.”

Michael’s medical instincts took over.

“What does he need?”

“A transplant.”

Thomas’s blood type was rare.

The waiting list could take months.

He had days.

Laura arrived with another problem.

“Julian has taken control of a private aircraft. We believe he’s trying to leave the country.”

Michael’s face hardened.

“Then stop him.”

“We are trying.”

Sarah checked her phone.

A message had arrived from Julian.

You have six hours.

Bring the master drive to the private airfield.

Or I release a virus into the hospital network that will erase every patient record and shut down critical systems.

Michael stared at the message.

Julian was no longer fighting for the company.
