CHAPTER 3: THE CAMERA NO ONE REMEMBERED
Three days later...
Margaret returned.
Not with an apology.
With an attorney.
"You've been manipulated," she declared as she marched into the family lawyer's office.
"I'm here to demand grandparents' visitation rights."
Emma squeezed Ethan's hand beneath the conference table.
Their attorney remained calm.
"Mrs. Walker, before we discuss visitation, there's another matter."
He placed a tablet on the table.
Ethan frowned.
"I installed new security cameras inside the house two weeks before the baby was born," he explained.
"I forgot they covered the hallway and nursery entrance."
Margaret's confidence disappeared.
"No..."
The attorney pressed play.
The room watched in silence.
There was Margaret entering the nursery.
No invitation.
No provocation.
Then...
The video clearly showed her striking Emma across the face.
Grabbing her hair.
Dragging her to the floor.
Emma never fought back.
She only tried to protect the baby.
The recording ended with Ethan rushing into the room.
Nobody spoke.
Margaret slowly looked around the table.
Every face had changed.
Even her own attorney looked horrified.
"I..."
"It wasn't—"
"It is exactly what it looks like," the attorney interrupted.
He slid another document across the table.
"We've already submitted the footage to the police."
Margaret's hands began to shake.
"You called the police?"
Ethan nodded.
"You assaulted my wife."
"You endangered my daughter."
"You don't get to pretend it never happened."
