The Baby’s Cry Brought Him Running—What He Saw Changed His Family Forever

CHAPTER 1: THE SCREAM FROM THE NURSERY

The baby had finally fallen asleep.

After hours of feeding, rocking, and pacing across the nursery, Emma Walker could barely keep her eyes open. She gently laid her newborn daughter into the crib and let out a slow breath of relief.

Finally.

Silence.

Emma brushed a fingertip across her baby's soft cheek.

"Please... stay asleep," she whispered.

The nursery door suddenly swung open.

Margaret Walker walked in without knocking.

Emma's shoulders stiffened immediately.

"She's sleeping," Emma said quietly.

Margaret didn't answer. She stood over the crib, studying the infant with cold, calculating eyes.

Then she spoke.

"She doesn't look like a Walker."

Emma froze.

"What?"

"She doesn't resemble my son."

Emma felt her stomach knot.

For weeks, Margaret had been planting the same poisonous accusation—that the baby wasn't Ethan's.

"Margaret... please stop."

"Stop what?" Margaret replied, her voice dripping with contempt. "Pretending you didn't trap my son?"

"I love Ethan."

"You love his money."

Emma stared at her in disbelief.

When she and Ethan met, he wasn't wealthy. They had built everything together.

But Margaret no longer cared about facts.

"I'm not doing this with you," Emma said, turning back toward the crib.

It was the worst mistake she could have made.

Without warning, Margaret grabbed Emma's arm.

"Don't you dare turn your back on me."

"Let go of me."

The slap came without warning.

CRACK.

Emma's head snapped sideways as pain exploded across her cheek.

She stumbled backward.

Before she could regain her balance, Margaret lunged forward, buried a fist in Emma's hair, and yanked with all her strength.

Emma screamed.

She crashed onto the hardwood floor beside the crib.

The newborn instantly woke, letting out a terrified cry that filled the room.

Emma curled into herself, tears spilling down her face as Margaret continued pulling her hair.

"Margaret... stop!"

But Margaret only screamed louder.

"You will NEVER be part of this family!"

Then—

The nursery door burst open.

Ethan Walker stood frozen in the doorway.

His wife lay on the floor.

His mother towered over her.

His newborn daughter was crying uncontrollably.

For one long second...

No one moved.

Something inside Ethan shattered.

"Eth—"

Margaret never finished.

Too late.

Ethan lunged across the room, shoved his mother away from Emma, and dropped to his knees beside his wife before placing himself between them like a human shield.

His voice thundered through the nursery.

"DON'T YOU EVER TOUCH HER AGAIN!"

The room fell silent.

May you like

For the first time in her life...

Margaret Walker looked genuinely afraid of her own son.
