Chapter 2: The Man Behind The Fair

The police investigation began the next morning.
Daniel sat beside Emma in the interview room, holding her small hand while detectives carefully asked questions.
They didn’t rush her.
They didn’t pressure her.
They simply listened.
Emma eventually remembered something important.
“There was another girl there.”
The detective looked up.
“Another girl?”
Emma nodded.
“She was crying too.”
Daniel looked at her.
“What girl?”
“I don’t know. She was hiding behind the mirrors.”
The detective exchanged a serious glance with his partner.
They immediately checked the security footage from the fair.
Hours passed.
Then they found something.
The cameras showed a man in a red jacket entering the fun house.
But he wasn’t alone.
He was following another child.
A little girl who looked terrified.
Daniel’s stomach dropped.
The investigation suddenly became bigger than Emma.
This wasn’t a single incident.
There were other children.
The police identified the man as Ryan Miller, a temporary worker hired for the fair.
But when officers went to his apartment…
He was gone.
His place was empty.
Except for one thing.
A box hidden under his bed.
Inside were photographs.
Dozens of them.
Photos of children at different events around the city.
Daniel stood outside the apartment, unable to breathe.
The man who hurt Emma had been watching children for months.
That night, Daniel sat beside his daughter's bed.
Emma was finally asleep.
But he couldn't close his eyes.
He kept thinking about the moment she whispered:
"I didn't want to ruin your day."
A child had been hurt.
And somehow, she thought she was the problem.
Daniel promised himself something.
He would not only protect Emma.
He would make sure no other child had to be afraid to tell the truth.
The next morning, the police received a new message.
From Ryan Miller.
A photo was attached.
It showed Daniel and Emma leaving the police station.
The message underneath said:
"You should have kept quiet."
Daniel stared at the screen.
May you like
Then another message arrived.
"You don't know who you're fighting."
