Chapter 1: The Truth Her Daughter Couldn't Say
The moment Daniel saw the mark on his daughter's shoulder, the world around him went completely silent.
The laughter from the fair disappeared.
The music from the rides became nothing but a distant echo.
All he could see was his little girl standing in front of him, trembling, trying so hard not to cry.
“Emma…” he whispered.
His voice broke.
The little girl immediately covered the mark with her hand and looked down.
“I’m sorry, Daddy…”
Daniel’s heart shattered.
“Sorry for what?”
“For making you upset.”
Those words hurt more than anything.
Because Emma wasn’t afraid of what happened to her.
She was afraid of disappointing him.
Daniel slowly lowered himself to her level.
“Look at me, sweetheart.”
She hesitated.
Then she slowly raised her eyes.
“You could never ruin my day. You could never make me angry. Nothing you tell me will ever make me stop loving you.”
Emma’s lips trembled.
For several seconds, she said nothing.
Then she whispered:
“It happened inside the fun house.”
Daniel froze.
The fun house.
The place where children ran through mirrors and laughed through confusing hallways.
The place he had let Emma explore because she begged him.
“I was looking for you,” Emma continued softly. “But then someone grabbed my arm.”
Daniel felt his hands tighten.
“Who was it?”
Emma looked terrified.
“I don’t know his name.”
“Can you describe him?”
She swallowed.
“He had a red jacket… and a scar near his eye.”
Daniel felt a cold wave move through him.
Because he remembered.
A man in a red jacket had been standing near the entrance earlier.
Someone he thought was just another visitor.
Someone he never paid attention to.
Daniel carefully picked Emma up and carried her back toward the car.
“No more hiding, okay?”
She buried her face against his shoulder.
“I was scared you would be angry.”
Daniel closed his eyes.
The pain inside him was unbearable.
“I’m not angry at you, Emma.”
He kissed her hair.
“I’m angry that someone made you afraid.”
As they drove away from the fair, Daniel called the police.
But before he could explain everything…
His phone received a message.
Unknown number.
One sentence appeared on the screen:
"Forget what happened tonight, or next time she won't walk away."
Daniel stared at the message.
His fear turned into something else.
