Chapter 1: The Woman Who Refused To Break

The mansion fell silent after Elena’s final words.

“Send everyone here. Now.”

No one understood what she meant.

The guests exchanged confused looks. Some whispered behind their hands. Others stared at Victoria, waiting for her to laugh and dismiss the threat.

After all, this was the Harrington Estate.

A place where money controlled everything.

A place where powerful families buried scandals before they ever reached the outside world.

Victoria slowly walked down the marble stairs, her emerald dress flowing behind her.

She no longer looked angry.

She looked confident.

“You’re still pretending?” Victoria said coldly.

Elena looked up at her from the floor.

Her body was shaking from pain, but her eyes were different now.

“You really think this is the first time?”

Victoria stopped.

For a brief second, something flashed across her face.

Fear.

But it disappeared quickly.

“You fell because you were careless,” Victoria replied. “Everyone saw it.”

The guests nodded silently.

They had seen Elena near the stairs.

They had seen Victoria standing above.

But nobody wanted to choose a side.

Not against Victoria Harrington.

The housemaid, Rosa, looked down.

Her hands trembled.

She knew something.

Something she had been hiding for years.

Then Elena’s phone rang.

She answered.

A deep male voice came through the speaker.

“Mrs. Vale?”

Elena closed her eyes.

“Yes, Detective Collins.”

The mansion froze.

Victoria’s expression changed.

Detective?

Why would a pregnant woman call a detective?

Elena slowly stood with help from Rosa.

Then she looked directly at Victoria.

“I told you.”

A pause.

“This time, I brought proof.”
