Chapter 4 – Before Midnight

Marcus rushed back into the hotel lobby.
Everything felt different.
Employees who once hurried to impress him simply continued working.
No one greeted him.
No one saluted him.
The Security Chief approached with quiet professionalism.
"I'm sorry, sir."
"I'll need your executive access badge."
Marcus stared at him.
"You work for me."
The guard shook his head gently.
"No, sir."
"I work for the owners."
Behind him, the lobby doors opened.
Victoria walked inside beside her father.
Every department manager stopped what they were doing.
Without a single instruction...
They stood.
Not out of fear.
Out of respect.
Vanessa hurried down the grand staircase wearing Victoria's silk robe and the sapphire brooch.
She froze when she saw everyone facing Victoria.
"What is this?"
Edward looked toward hotel security.
"Escort Ms. Vanessa to the lobby."
"And return everything that belongs to my daughter."
The robe.
The sapphire brooch.
Even the presidential suite key card.
Vanessa handed them over with trembling hands.
Marcus stepped toward Victoria.
His voice was barely above a whisper.
"Please..."
"We can fix this."
Victoria looked at the man she had loved for eleven years.
The man she had built an empire beside.
Then she quietly removed her wedding ring.
She placed it in his hand.
"I spent eleven years helping you build hotels."
"You spent one night proving you never deserved them."
She turned away without looking back.
Outside, the city clock struck midnight.
The hotel lights remained bright.
The empire still stood.
Only its king had changed.
May you like
And for the first time in eleven years...
It belonged openly to the woman who had owned it all along.
