Chapter 2 – The Woman They Thought Had Nothing

The revolving doors closed behind Victoria with a quiet hiss.

Inside, Marcus adjusted his tuxedo cuffs as if nothing had happened.

Vanessa laughed, raising a champagne flute while still wrapped in Victoria's ivory silk robe.

The sapphire brooch glittered beneath the lobby lights.

Neither of them noticed the Security Chief staring at Victoria through the glass.

He had worked for the hotel for twenty-three years.

He knew exactly who she was.

Not the wife.

Not the former executive.

The woman every employee respected because she knew every housekeeper's name, remembered birthdays, and personally helped train managers during every hotel opening.

His radio suddenly crackled.

"Attention, all department heads. Mandatory executive conference call in ten minutes. Attendance required."

He frowned.

The order hadn't come from Marcus.

Marcus owned the company—or at least everyone believed he did.

Across town, Victoria entered the back seat of a black sedan.

Her father, Edward Ashford, was already inside.

Silver-haired.

Impeccably dressed.

Calm.

He didn't ask if she was hurt.

He could already see it in her eyes.

Instead, he slid a leather folder onto her lap.

"You protected him for eleven years," he said quietly.

"I warned you this day would come."

Victoria opened the folder.

Inside were documents Marcus had never been allowed to see.

The original ownership agreement.

The founding trust.

Every luxury hotel.

Every resort.

Every piece of land.

Legally controlled by the Ashford Family Trust.

Marcus's company had never owned the empire.

It had only managed it.

Edward looked out the window.

"He believed he was the king."

"He never realized he was only the employee."

Meanwhile, back at the hotel...

Marcus entered the presidential suite.

Vanessa poured herself another glass of champagne.

"I can't believe you finally got rid of her."

Marcus smirked.

"It should've happened years ago."

His phone rang.

He ignored it.

It rang again.

Then again.

Five calls in less than two minutes.

Finally, irritated, he answered.

"What?"

The voice on the other end was trembling.

"Sir... every executive has been summoned to an emergency board meeting."

Marcus frowned.

"I didn't authorize any meeting."

"You... you don't have to."

"It wasn't your order."

The line went silent.

May you like

For the first time that night...

Marcus stopped smiling.
