Chapter 3 – The Boardroom Betrayal

By eleven o'clock, every board member had arrived.

Marcus walked into the executive conference room expecting applause.

Instead...

No one stood.

No one greeted him.

Even his closest allies refused to meet his eyes.

At the head of the table sat Edward Ashford.

Beside him...

Victoria.

Still wearing the same white evening gown Marcus had forced out of the hotel less than an hour earlier.

Vanessa tried to follow Marcus inside.

The receptionist blocked her path.

"I'm sorry, ma'am."

"This meeting is restricted to shareholders."

Vanessa laughed.

"I'm with Marcus."

The receptionist remained expressionless.

"And Marcus is no longer authorized to bring guests."

Marcus slammed both hands onto the conference table.

"What the hell is going on?"

Edward calmly pushed a folder toward him.

"Read page three."

Marcus flipped through the papers.

His confident smile disappeared.

Then his face turned pale.

Every share he believed he owned...

Was non-voting stock.

The controlling interest belonged entirely to the Ashford Family Trust.

Signed eleven years earlier.

The same week he married Victoria.

He looked at her in disbelief.

"You knew?"

Victoria met his eyes without anger.

"I wrote the agreement."

Edward spoke next.

"You were chosen to build the business."

"Not to steal it."

Another director cleared his throat.

"The emergency vote will now begin."

One by one...

Hands rose around the table.

Every single vote.

Unanimous.

Marcus was removed as Chief Executive Officer.

His corporate access was revoked.

His company credit cards were canceled.

His office was locked remotely.

His security clearance disappeared before he could even stand.
