CHAPTER 1 — The Truth Hidden Behind the Walls

The mansion that once represented power and luxury suddenly felt like a prison.

For three years, Alejandro Castillo had walked through those same halls believing he had lost the woman he loved forever.

But now…

He finally understood.

She had never left.

She had been trapped.

“Vivian…”

Alejandro’s voice was dangerously calm.

The woman standing on the staircase smiled nervously.

“What are you looking at me like that for?” Vivian asked, forcing a laugh. “Don’t tell me you actually believe her.”

Alejandro looked at Elena.

His wife stood beside him, still trembling.

Three years of fear had taught her one painful lesson.

Never speak unless she was allowed to.

Never look too confident.

Never make Vivian angry.

Alejandro noticed every small reaction.

The way Elena flinched when Vivian moved.

The way her fingers tightened around her uniform.

The way she looked at him like she wanted to say something…

But was afraid of what would happen if she did.

“Tell me the truth,” Alejandro whispered.

Elena looked down.

“I…”

Her voice cracked.

Vivian immediately interrupted.

“She’s confused. She has been working here for years. She probably created this ridiculous story because she wanted attention.”

Alejandro slowly turned his head.

For the first time, he looked at Vivian like she was a stranger.

“No.”

The single word silenced the entire mansion.

Vivian froze.

“No?” she repeated.

Alejandro stepped closer.

“I spent three years searching for my wife.”

His eyes became colder.

“I searched hospitals.”

“Police records.”

“Private investigators.”

“I searched countries I had never even visited.”

His jaw tightened.

“And all this time, you were standing in my house pretending you knew nothing.”

Vivian’s expression changed.

Only for a second.

But Alejandro saw it.

The fear.

The guilt.

The panic.

And that was enough.

He turned toward the servants.

“How long?”

Nobody answered.

The silence was louder than any confession.

Alejandro looked at the oldest servant in the room.

“Mrs. Bennett.”

The elderly woman immediately lowered her eyes.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Castillo…”

Her voice shook.

“I was afraid.”

Alejandro stepped forward.

“Afraid of what?”

The woman looked toward Vivian.

Then back at Alejandro.

“She told us if anyone helped Elena… she would destroy our families.”

Elena closed her eyes.

A painful memory returned.

The locked doors.

The threats.

The endless days cleaning a house she once owned.

Vivian’s smile disappeared.

“You ungrateful people.”

Her voice became sharp.

“After everything I gave you?”

Alejandro looked at her with disgust.

“You didn’t give them anything.”

He pointed toward Elena.

“You took everything from her.”

The mansion became silent.

Then Alejandro reached into his pocket.

He pulled out a small object.

A necklace.

Elena’s necklace.

The one she wore the night she disappeared.

“I found this three years ago.”

Elena looked at it and immediately covered her mouth.

“My God…”

Tears filled her eyes.

“You kept it?”

Alejandro nodded.

“I promised myself I would return it to you.”

His voice broke slightly.

“Because I believed you were still alive.”

For the first time in three years…

Elena allowed herself to believe it.

She wasn’t forgotten.

She wasn’t abandoned.

She had been found.

But Vivian wasn’t finished.

She slowly smiled.

“You think you’ve won?”

Everyone looked at her.

Vivian raised her chin.

“You don’t know the real reason Elena disappeared.”

Alejandro narrowed his eyes.

“What are you talking about?”

Vivian smiled.

“Ask your wife.”

Elena’s face suddenly turned pale.

Alejandro noticed.

And his heart sank.

Because he realized…

There was another secret.

A secret Elena had been forced to carry alone.
