Chapter 2: The Truth She Tried To Hide
Margaret refused to leave.
She spent the night in a hotel, but the next morning, she came back with a completely different attitude.
She was no longer angry.
She was crying.
“I made a mistake,” she told Daniel.
“I lost control.”
But Daniel didn’t move.
Because he had heard those words before.
Not from his mother.
From Emily.
After every time Margaret hurt her.
After every cruel comment.
After every moment Emily was forced to apologize just to keep peace.
“You didn’t lose control once,” Daniel said quietly.
“You controlled everything.”
Margaret looked away.
Daniel placed a folder on the table.
Her face changed.
“What is that?”
“Evidence.”
Inside were messages.
Security footage.
Recordings.
Everything Emily had secretly saved because she was afraid no one would believe her.
Daniel had found them after taking Emily and the baby to a hospital.
The doctor had confirmed Emily’s injuries.
Not accidental.
Not a misunderstanding.
Abuse.
Margaret’s expression slowly collapsed.
“You recorded me?”
Emily stepped forward.
“No.”
Her voice was quiet but stronger than before.
“I documented what happened because I knew you would make me look like the problem.”
Margaret looked at her.
“You poisoned my son against me.”
Emily shook her head.
“No.”
She looked at Daniel.
“Your son finally saw the truth.”
That sentence broke something inside Daniel.
Because he realized his wife had been suffering silently.
Not because she was weak.
Because she was trying to protect him from losing the person who raised him.
Daniel walked toward Emily.
“I’m sorry.”
Emily looked down.
“For what?”
“For making you face her alone.”
A tear slipped down his face.
“I should have believed you.”
Emily didn’t answer immediately.
Then she slowly reached for his hand.
“I just needed you to see me.”
Daniel held her tightly.
Behind them, Margaret watched.
