Chapter 1: The Day Raymond Came Home

The Sterling mansion had always been a symbol of perfection.

A place where every flower was arranged perfectly, every piece of furniture was imported, and every guest knew exactly how to behave.

But when Raymond Sterling returned from his overseas business trip, he didn't see perfection.

He saw his wife sitting on the cold marble floor.

He saw his five-year-old son trembling in her arms.

And he saw the two people he trusted most standing nearby without a single trace of regret.

His mother, Lady Evelyn.

And his younger sister, Rebecca.

"Pack your belongings."

Raymond's voice echoed through the mansion.

"You two are leaving."

For the first time in years, Evelyn looked surprised.

"Excuse me?"

She slowly lowered her phone.

"You are throwing your own mother out?"

Raymond stared at her.

"No."

His voice became colder.

"I'm protecting my family from someone who forgot what family means."

Rebecca stepped forward.

"Raymond, you're misunderstanding everything."

"The boy made a mess."

"A five-year-old child with a fever made a mess?"

Raymond pointed toward his son's exhausted face.

"Look at him."

Neither woman moved.

Neither apologized.

That silence told Raymond everything.

He carried his son upstairs himself while Clara followed behind, still crying quietly.

But before he reached the staircase...

Evelyn spoke.

"You think this woman changed you."

Raymond stopped.

"You were never this emotional before Clara."

"You used to understand power."

"You used to understand reputation."

Raymond slowly turned around.

"No, Mother."

"I understood fear."

"And I spent my entire life thinking fear was the same thing as respect."

The mansion became silent.

Then Raymond carried his son away.

But Evelyn watched him leave with a cold expression.

Because she knew something Raymond didn't.
