Chapter 8 — The Final Chapter

Five years later.

The Chicago skyline was still beautiful.

The same city.

The same lights.

But Evelyn was no longer sitting in someone else's penthouse.

She stood inside her own headquarters.

Her name was on the building.

Her legacy was finally hers.

An assistant walked in.

“Ms. Carter, there is a letter for you.”

Evelyn opened it.

It was from Richard.

Only one sentence was written.

"I finally understand who you were."

Evelyn read it quietly.

Then folded the letter.

She didn't feel anger.

She didn't feel hatred.

Only peace.

Because the greatest victory was never watching him fall.

It was realizing she no longer cared.

She looked out over Chicago.

The city that once watched her marriage collapse…

Now watched her rise.

And this time…

May you like

Nobody could take her place.

The end.
