Chapter 3: The Woman They Tried to Destroy

David lunged toward me.
"You planned this?"
Before he reached me, two federal agents stepped between us.
"Step back, sir."
"I want to talk to my ex-wife!"
"You can talk to your attorney."
The reporters who had been covering another hearing suddenly rushed toward us.
Microphones filled the air.
"Cameras live!"
"David Hale is under federal investigation!"
One reporter looked directly at me.
"Mrs. Carter, did you know this would happen today?"
I adjusted Noah's blanket before answering.
"I knew the truth would eventually catch up with them."
Years earlier, David had forged my signature onto dozens of shell-company documents.
When I discovered the fraud, they accused me of stealing from the family business.
They ruined my reputation.
They froze my access to every account.
They threw me out while I was eight months pregnant.
What they never realized...
...was that I had quietly copied every document before leaving.
Instead of destroying the evidence, they had handed it to the only witness who couldn't be bought.
I spent months working with federal investigators in secret.
Every forged signature.
Every hidden transfer.
Every fake company.
Every dollar.
It all led back to Richard Hale.
David wasn't the mastermind.
He had simply followed his father's instructions.
Now both of them stood exactly where they had forced me to stand—
May you like
In front of cameras.
With nowhere left to hide.
