Chapter 18 - The Hunt in the Estate

They scrambled through a narrow, stone drainage tunnel beneath the burning mansion floor.
The roar of collapsing ceilings echoed above them like thunderous cannon fire.
Clara held Toby tightly against her chest, her heart pounding with growing suspicion.
She kept her eyes locked on her brother’s back as he led them through the dark tunnel.
"What did Julian mean back there, Marcus?" Clara demanded, her voice echoing off the damp stone walls.
"Not here, Clara," Detective Vance replied without slowing his pace.
"We need to reach the river exit before the whole structure collapses on our heads."
Suddenly, a gunshot cracked through the narrow tunnel from behind them.
A bullet struck the stone wall right beside Julianne’s head, sending sharp rock splinters flying.
They all turned around to see Arthur emerging from the shadow of the tunnel entrance.
He was bleeding from a head wound, but his eyes were wide and filled with manic fury.

"Nobody leaves this estate alive!" Arthur screamed, raising a heavy tactical pistol.
"If Julian's dead, then every last penny belongs to me!"
