Chapter 14 - Poison in the Inheritance
A high-pitched, deafening alarm echoed through the entire estate as red emergency strobe lights began flashing.
The sound of panicking guests screaming in the ballroom echoed down the long hallway.
Arthur lunged at Julian, knocking the gun and the detonator out of his hands.
The two identical brothers crashed onto the floor in a brutal, violent struggle.
Julianne grabbed Clara by the wrist and yanked her out of the gallery room into the panic-stricken corridor.
"We have to get to the basement security vault!" Julianne shouted over the sirens.
"The children were moved there an hour ago!"
They sprinted down the narrow back stairwell as smoke began pouring through the ventilation shafts.
"Why did Julian do all of this?!" Clara yelled as they ran down the concrete steps.
"The family fortune requires three living heirs to unlock the trust fund!" Julianne explained rapidly.
"He needed you to replace me so the bank's biometric security would register a mother's approval!"
"The poison he used on the children wasn't meant to kill them—it was to alter their blood chemistry for the genetic testing!"
