Chapter 13 - The Living Ghost

The gallery doors burst open, and Arthur stood there, breathing heavily with a gun in his hand.

Behind him was a woman in a long black trench coat, her face partially hidden by a wide brim hat.

She stepped into the light, and Clara’s breath caught in her throat.

The woman had the exact same gentle eyes and fair skin as the portrait on the wall.

It was Julianne, alive and standing right in front of them.

"Put the weapon down, Julian," Julianne said, her voice steady and full of hatred.

"It's over."

Julian didn't look surprised at all; instead, a cruel smile spread across his lips.

"You should have stayed buried, Julianne," Julian replied, pulling a small remote detonator from his suit pocket.

"Did you really think I didn't track your movements the moment you crossed the state border?"

"The children!" Clara cried out, stepping between the armed men. "Where are the children?!"

"They are exactly where they need to be," Julianne said, looking at Clara with deep pity.

"Clara, you need to run right now."

"This entire house is rigged with high-grade explosives."

Julian thumbed the red button on the remote before anyone could tackle him to the floor.
