Chapter 10 - Bloodline Betrayal

Leo let out a terrified shriek and buried his face in Elena's soaked uniform. Elena stepped instantly between Marcus's gun and her child, her hazel eyes blazing with a mother's lethal fury.
"You were his best friend," Elena hissed, her voice cutting through the hum of the cooling fans. "You protected Christian for ten years!"
"And I spent ten years being treated like a glorified watchdog by billionaires who think money buys loyalty," Marcus replied, his aim never wavering from Christian's head. "Do you know what Senator Sterling offered me to make sure none of you left this terminal alive? Twenty million dollars and a diplomatic passport to Singapore."
Christian didn't flinch. He stood up slowly from the glass desk, placing himself slightly ahead of Elena. Despite his fractured ribs and drenched clothes, his eyes were dead calm.
"You let Victoria take the fall tonight," Christian said coldly. "You staged the breach at the mansion so you could clean up both sides. Victoria thought she was in control, but she was just another pawn the Senator was ready to discard."
"Victoria was sloppy," Marcus shrugged. "She got greedy. She wanted to marry you and take the Sterling estate publicly. The Senator preferred a cleaner approach—an orphaned boy raised by a puppet trust, with all the Sterling corporate voting shares signing over to his defense contracts."
Marcus raised the pistol an inch higher. "Step away from the console, Christian. Format the drive, and I’ll make sure Elena and the kid die painlessly in their sleep."
"Don't you dare touch my son," Christian whispered.
"You don't have a say in this anymore," Marcus sneered, his finger tightening on the trigger.
BEEP.
A sharp, digital chime echoed from the main server console. The monitors flashed from crimson to bright white.
A computerized voice echoed through the silo's speakers:
"Global Upload Initiated. Transmitting 4.2 Terabytes of encrypted evidence to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Interpol, The New York Times, and the Department of Justice."
Marcus's eyes widened in sudden panic. "What did you do?!"
"My father knew you were dirty, Marcus," Christian said, a chilling smile spreading across his face. "He knew someone in security was leaking transport routes three years ago. That's why the terminal doesn't just read the key... it tracks retinal movement."
Christian tapped the glass desk. "The moment you walked through that door, the biometric cameras identified you and triggered the automated fail-safe upload. Every bank transfer Senator Sterling sent to your offshore accounts is already appearing on every news desk in the country."
"You son of a bitch!" Marcus roared, lunging forward with his finger squeezing the trigger.
Elena didn't hesitate. She grabbed a heavy steel server backup drive from the desk and hurled it with all her strength directly at Marcus's face.
The heavy drive struck Marcus’s nose with a sickening crunch. The gunshot went wild, the bullet ricocheting off the reinforced concrete wall.
Christian closed the distance in a fraction of a second. Ignoring the blinding agony in his broken ribs, he drove his shoulder into Marcus's midsection, slamming the traitor back against the steel door frame.
Marcus swung the pistol down toward Christian’s temple, but Elena grabbed a heavy iron fire extinguisher from the wall bracket, swinging it with both hands straight into Marcus’s knee.
A sickening snap echoed through the room. Marcus shrieked, collapsing to the floor as the pistol clattered away across the concrete.
Christian pinned him with his knee, pressing his forearm against Marcus’s throat until the traitor’s eyes rolled back in his head, slipping into unconsciousness.
Christian leaned back against the wall, chest heaving, blood dripping from his split lip. He looked over at Elena, who was standing over Marcus with the fire extinguisher still raised, breathing heavily.
"Remind me never to make you angry," Christian gasped, managing a faint, breathless smile.
Elena dropped the extinguisher, rushing over to pull Leo from behind the server rack. She fell to her knees beside Christian, wrapping both arms around him.
"Is it really over?" Elena asked, tears finally breaking through her exhaustion. "Did the upload go through?"
Christian looked up at the monitors. The progress bar hit 100%.
"Broadcast Complete. Confirmation received from FBI Cyber Division."
Suddenly, the low thrum of military helicopter rotors vibrated through the ceiling of the silo. Powerful searchlights beamed down through the skylights, illuminating the dust motes in the air.

A voice boomed through an external megaphone:
"Senator Thomas Sterling has been taken into federal custody. Christian Sterling, Elena Sterling... this is Director Vance of the FBI. We have the evidence. Stand down. You are safe."
