CHAPTER 2 — Grandma Rose’s Final Message

Three days after Tyler’s arrest, I finally returned home.

Not my parents’ home.

Mine.

The house Grandma Rose had left me.

The place where I had spent countless nights taking care of her.

The place my family believed they deserved.

I entered her old office alone.

The room smelled exactly like her.

Old books.

Lavender perfume.

Fresh wood.

For a moment…

I almost expected her to walk in.

“Bridget, stop worrying so much.”

I smiled sadly.

Then I noticed something.

A small envelope inside her desk.

My name was written on it.

Bridget.

If you are reading this, something happened.

My hands started shaking.

Grandma had known.

She knew my family.

She knew Tyler.

She knew exactly what they were capable of.

The letter continued.

“Your brother was never angry about love.”

“He was angry because he believed the world owed him everything.”

“But there is something you need to know.”

“Your inheritance was never meant to punish Tyler.”

“It was meant to protect you.”

I stopped reading.

Protect me?

From what?

Then I found the second page.

And my entire world changed.

Years earlier, Grandma had discovered that Tyler had been secretly stealing money from her company.

Not small amounts.

Millions.

She had quietly investigated him.

She found fake contracts.

Hidden accounts.

Forged signatures.

But she never confronted him.

Because she wanted proof.

Real proof.

The inheritance wasn’t about money.

It was about justice.

Grandma had transferred everything to me because she knew I was the only person who would uncover the truth.

That evening, Detective Reyes came to my house.

He placed a file on the table.

“We found something else.”

I opened it.

Inside were financial records.

Tyler wasn’t just angry about the inheritance.

He was terrified.

Because if Grandma’s evidence became public…

He would lose everything.

His reputation.

His career.

His freedom.

Then Detective Reyes said something that shocked me.

“Your father knew.”

I looked up.

“What?”

“He helped cover it up.”

My hands went cold.

“No.”

The detective nodded.

“Your mother knew too.”

For years…

I thought Tyler was the only person who betrayed me.

I was wrong.

My entire family had protected him.

That night, I watched old family videos.

Birthday parties.

Christmas dinners.

Graduations.

Moments I thought were real.

But now I saw them differently.

Every time Tyler hurt someone…

Someone defended him.

Every time I was ignored…

Someone chose him.

Then my phone rang.

Unknown number.

I answered.

A woman’s voice whispered.

“Bridget…”

I froze.

“Who is this?”

The woman hesitated.

“It’s Lauren.”

Tyler’s wife.

“What do you want?”

Her voice cracked.

“I need your help.”

I stayed silent.

“Tyler didn’t act alone.”

My heart started pounding.

“What are you saying?”

May you like

Lauren whispered:

“There is someone else in your family who planned everything.”
