CHAPTER 1 — The Camera That Saw Everything

The ambulance lights painted the entire Parker family estate in red and blue.

For years, my family had controlled every story.

They controlled what people believed.

They controlled what neighbors heard.

They controlled what employees said.

But that night, for the first time, they were losing control.

Because someone had seen the truth.

And someone had recorded it.

I lay on the stretcher as paramedics carefully lifted me from the rocky riverbank.

My back felt like it was burning.

Every breath hurt.

But the worst pain wasn’t physical.

It was watching my own family stand there like strangers.

My mother Diane kept whispering to guests.

“She’s always been dramatic.”

My father Harold spoke quietly with his lawyer.

“This is a misunderstanding.”

And Tyler…

Tyler stood beside the broken bridge.

The same bridge where he had pushed me.

The same place where my life had changed forever.

But he wasn’t looking at me.

He was looking toward the back door.

Where Marcus had disappeared.

At the hospital, Sarah Chen refused to leave my side until detectives arrived.

She had seen something.

Something that bothered her.

“Bridget,” she said softly while adjusting my monitor.

“I need to ask you something.”

I looked at her.

“What?”

“Your injuries suggest something important.”

My heart started racing.

“What?”

Sarah lowered her voice.

“The way you landed doesn’t match an accidental fall.”

I stared at her.

“What do you mean?”

She looked toward the hallway before answering.

“Your body position suggests you were pushed.”

For the first time since the fall…

I felt someone believe me.

Two hours later, Detective Michael Reyes entered my room.

A calm man in his forties.

He placed a folder on the table.

“Your family says you lost your balance.”

I almost laughed.

“My brother pushed me.”

He studied my face.

“Do you have proof?”

I closed my eyes.

Because I knew the answer.

Not yet.

But then Sarah walked back into the room.

She was holding her phone.

“Detective.”

Everyone turned.

“I think we found something.”

The next morning, Marcus arrived at the police station.

He wasn’t arrested.

Not yet.

He came voluntarily.

Confident.

Smiling.

Because Tyler had promised him protection.

Marcus sat across from Detective Reyes.

“I installed those cameras myself,” he said.

“Exactly,” Reyes replied.

Marcus smiled.

“Then you know they don’t work.”

The detective leaned forward.

“Are you sure about that?”

Marcus froze.

Reyes opened a laptop.

On the screen was security footage.

The bridge.

The party.

The guests.

And Tyler walking toward me.

Everyone watched silently.

Then the video played.

Tyler’s voice filled the room.

“Give it back.”

My voice answered.

“It was never yours.”

Then Tyler pushed me.

Not accidentally.

Not because of a mistake.

Because he chose to.

Marcus stopped breathing.

Because he finally realized something.

Tyler had lied to him too.

That afternoon, Tyler was arrested.

But before police took him away…

He looked directly at me.

Not with regret.

Not with guilt.

With anger.

“You ruined everything.”

I stared at him.

“No, Tyler.”

I looked at the handcuffs around his wrists.

“You did.”

But Tyler’s arrest was only the beginning.

Because when detectives searched the family home…

They found something nobody expected.

A second secret.

May you like

A secret hidden inside Grandma Rose’s old office.

A document that could destroy everything my family had built.
