CHAPTER 3 — The Lawyers at the Door
Two men in dark suits walked inside.
The entire ballroom recognized them.
The legal representatives of Edward Langford.
Emily's father.
The man whose empire had built half the city.
The older lawyer opened a black folder.
“Mrs. Whitmore...”
He looked around the room.
“Correction.”
“Miss Langford.”
Whispers spread instantly.
Preston's face changed.
“What is this?”
The lawyer calmly placed documents on the table.
“Mr. Whitmore, you have been using company assets that legally belonged to Miss Langford.”
Silence.
“You transferred millions without authorization.”
Preston's confidence began disappearing.
Sophia stood.
“That’s impossible.”
The lawyer looked at her.
“Mrs. Laurent, your involvement will also be investigated.”
For the first time...
Sophia looked afraid.
Emily touched her stomach.
