CHAPTER 2 — THE SECRET BEHIND THE BAKERY WALL

Frank tried to laugh.

A fake laugh.

The kind people use when they are afraid but don’t want anyone to notice.

“I don’t know that girl.”

Olivia studied him carefully.

“You’re sure?”

“Absolutely.”

Emma stepped forward.

“You’re lying.”

Everyone looked at her.

Frank frowned.

“Watch your mouth, little girl.”

Emma’s eyes filled with anger.

“You knew my sister.”

Silence.

The street became completely still.

Olivia crouched beside Emma.

“Tell me everything.”

Emma pulled the folded paper from her jacket.

The note Lily left behind.

Olivia read it slowly.

Then her expression changed.

Because beneath the message was a small symbol.

A bakery logo.

Frank’s bakery logo.

“This was found in your sister’s room?” Olivia asked.

Emma nodded.

“She told me she found something strange inside the bakery.”

Frank immediately stepped forward.

“That proves nothing.”

Olivia looked at him.

“Actually, it proves quite a lot.”

She turned toward the bakery window.

“Especially because your security cameras were removed yesterday.”

Frank’s face went pale.

The crowd began whispering.

“Why would he remove cameras?”

“What is he hiding?”

Frank raised his voice.

“You’re accusing me without evidence!”

Olivia didn’t react.

“I’m not accusing you.”

She walked toward the bakery door.

“I’m investigating.”

The moment she touched the door handle, Frank moved.

Too quickly.

He grabbed her arm.

Everyone noticed.

Olivia looked down at his hand.

Then slowly looked back at his face.

“Frank.”

Her voice became colder.

“Move your hand.”

He immediately released her.

But it was already too late.

Because everyone saw his reaction.

He wasn’t protecting his bakery.

He was protecting something inside.

Olivia entered.

Behind the counter were shelves filled with bread.

Everything looked normal.

Too normal.

Then Emma noticed something.

A small scratch on the floor.

Near the storage room.

“The door
”

She whispered.

Olivia followed her eyes.

Behind several boxes was an old wooden door.

Locked.

Frank stepped between them.

“You have no reason to open that.”

Olivia smiled slightly.

“Actually
”

She pulled out a search warrant.

“I do.”

Frank’s confidence finally broke.

Because he knew.

May you like

Behind that door was the truth he had buried for years.
