Chapter 2 — The Secret Behind the Uniform

The silence inside the VIP lounge felt heavier than the humiliation Victor Langley had tried to create.

No one laughed anymore.

No one whispered.

The same people who had watched Elena stand alone moments earlier were now avoiding eye contact, suddenly uncomfortable with the truth unfolding in front of them.

Victor looked from the manager to Elena, his face slowly turning red.

“Madam?”

The word echoed in his mind.

It didn’t make sense.

The woman wearing a waitress uniform.

The woman carrying their glasses.

The woman they had treated like she belonged beneath them.

Was being addressed with respect by the person who ran one of the most exclusive restaurants in the city.

Victor forced a laugh.

“This is some kind of joke, right?”

The manager remained expressionless.

“No, Mr. Langley.”

He looked toward Elena.

“This restaurant belongs to Carlisle Holdings.”

The room froze.

Several guests immediately recognized the name.

Carlisle Holdings.

The company that had grown from a small family business into one of the most powerful investment groups in the country.

The company that had recently acquired several luxury properties, including this restaurant.

Victor stared at Elena.

“No…”

His voice became quieter.

“You’re not…”

Elena calmly removed the waitress apron from around her waist.

For the first time that night, she was no longer hiding behind the uniform.

“My name is Elena Carlisle.”

A wave of shock moved through the room.

Someone dropped a champagne glass.

Another guest whispered:

“The Carlisle girl?”

Victor’s face changed completely.

Because now he remembered.

Twenty years earlier, Elena had been a teenager standing in the corner of a charity event.

A scholarship student.

The daughter of Thomas Carlisle, a respected businessman who had been accused of financial crimes.

The accusations destroyed him.

His company collapsed.

His reputation vanished.

And among the people who enjoyed watching his downfall was Victor’s family.

Victor remembered laughing.

He remembered his father saying:

“People like the Carlisles don’t belong with us.”

But he never imagined the girl he had ignored would become the woman standing before him today.

Elena stepped closer.

“You probably don’t remember me.”

Victor swallowed.

“I…”

“But I remember you.”

Her voice was calm.

Almost too calm.

“You were there when my father lost everything.”

The room became colder.

“You watched people destroy his name.”

Victor looked away.

Elena continued.

“You didn’t hold the knife.”

May you like

A pause.

“But you watched someone else use it.”
