Chapter 2: The Secret Behind The Poison

The police investigation began immediately.

Victoria was taken to a private room while detectives collected evidence.

The wedding hall slowly emptied.

But Alexander refused to leave.

He needed answers.

Not excuses.

Not lies.

Answers.

Clara sat across from him in the quiet ballroom.

Her hands were shaking.

“You knew about the poison before today,” Alexander said.

It wasn’t a question.

Clara looked down.

“Yes.”

“Then why didn’t you tell me earlier?”

Tears appeared in her eyes.

“Because I didn’t know who I could trust.”

Alexander frowned.

“What does that mean?”

Clara reached into her pocket and pulled out an old envelope.

Inside was a photograph.

A photograph of Victoria with another man.

Alexander stared at it.

The man beside his wife was Daniel Cross.

His former business partner.

The man who disappeared two years ago after being accused of financial fraud.

“That’s impossible,” Alexander said.

“Daniel is dead.”

Clara shook her head.

“No. He isn’t.”

The room became colder.

“Victoria has been working with him for months.”

Alexander looked at the picture again.

The woman he loved.

The man who betrayed him.

Together.

“But why would she want me dead?”

Clara swallowed.

“Because of your company.”

Alexander froze.

His father’s company.

The company worth billions.

The company that would legally transfer ownership to Victoria if something happened to him after their marriage.

It was not a murder for revenge.

It was a murder for inheritance.

Suddenly, Alexander remembered something.

A conversation he overheard weeks ago.

Victoria asking his lawyer about marriage contracts.

Asking about his assets.

Asking what would happen if he died.

At the time, he thought it was normal.

Now

every memory felt like a warning he ignored.

The door suddenly opened.

A detective entered.

“Mr. Alexander.”

He turned.

“We found something in Victoria’s room.”

The detective placed a folder on the table.

Inside were bank records.

Messages.

Photos.

And a contract.

Alexander opened it.

His heart stopped.

It was a document transferring his entire fortune

to Victoria.

Effective immediately after his death.

Clara watched his reaction.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered.

“I tried to warn someone.”

Alexander looked at her.

“Why me?”

Clara hesitated.

Then she finally revealed the truth.

“Because your father once saved my life.”

Alexander looked confused.

“My father?”

Clara nodded.

“He helped my family when nobody else would.”

Her voice cracked.

“I couldn’t stand by and watch his son be killed the same way.”

Before Alexander could respond

a loud alarm suddenly came from outside.

Everyone turned.

A police officer rushed inside.

“Victoria escaped.”

Alexander stood up.

“How?”

The officer looked nervous.

“She had help.”

A terrible realization crossed Alexander’s face.

Daniel Cross was not just alive.

He was still close.

And he was coming for him.
