CHAPTER 2: THE SECRET BEHIND THE PERFECT FAMILY

Daniel spent the next hour trying to understand how his life had become a lie.

The police arrived.

The stranger, Ethan Cole, was taken to the hospital instead of being arrested.

Because after questioning him, Daniel discovered something impossible.

Ethan wasn’t hiding inside the house to hurt them.

He was hiding because he was afraid.

Afraid of Vanessa.

Afraid of what she had done.

The next morning, Daniel sat across from Ethan in the hospital.

The injured man looked exhausted.

“I was never supposed to survive,” Ethan said.

Daniel remained silent.

“Your wife thought I died.”

Daniel leaned forward.

“What happened?”

Ethan looked down.

“Ten years ago, my younger brother worked for your company.”

Daniel froze.

His company.

“My brother discovered someone was stealing millions from the company accounts.”

“And?”

“He was going to expose the person responsible.”

Daniel’s hands tightened.

“Who?”

Ethan looked directly at him.

“Vanessa.”

The words felt impossible.

Daniel shook his head.

“My wife?”

Ethan nodded.

“She wasn’t always like this. But she became obsessed with power.”

He explained everything.

Vanessa had created fake documents.

She had transferred money through hidden accounts.

When Ethan’s brother discovered the truth, Vanessa arranged an accident.

But Ethan survived.

He spent years collecting evidence.

Then he found out Vanessa had married Daniel.

She had entered a wealthy family.

She had built a perfect image.

And Ethan realized the only way to expose her was to get close.

“But why hide under the sofa?”

Daniel asked.

Ethan looked away.

“Because she knew I was alive.”

Daniel felt a chill.

“She was looking for me.”

Ethan nodded.

“Your wife wasn’t protecting your family.”

“She was protecting her secret.”

Meanwhile, Vanessa sat alone in the mansion.

She stared at old photographs.

Her perfect life.

Her perfect marriage.

Everything she built was falling apart.

Then her phone rang.

A hidden number.

She answered.

“It’s over,” the voice said.

Vanessa’s eyes widened.

“No.”

“You were careless.”

“I still have control.”

A pause.

Then the voice replied:

“You lost control the moment the little girl found him.”

Vanessa looked toward the living room.

The place where everything began.

The place where her secret was discovered.

For the first time, Vanessa realized something.

May you like

The person she underestimated the most…

was her own daughter.
