Chapter 4: The Woman Who Chose Herself

Six months later, the Millbrook Inn hosted another event.

But this time, Amy wasn’t wearing a wedding dress.

She wore a simple black evening gown.

She stood on the stage as the new owner of a successful foundation created in her grandmother’s name.

The same woman who once walked into Room 237 believing her life was over had built something new.

Something that belonged only to her.

The newspapers called it a comeback.

Amy called it survival.

Maverick had lost everything.

After the scandal became public, his business partners abandoned him.

His family cut ties.

Penelope moved away, leaving behind the city where everyone knew her betrayal.

But Amy never celebrated their downfall.

She didn’t need revenge.

Her happiness was enough.

After the ceremony, Amy stepped outside onto the hotel balcony.

The city lights reflected in her eyes.

Her father joined her.

“You know,” he said softly, “I was afraid that day would break you.”

Amy smiled.

“It almost did.”

“And now?”

She looked toward the horizon.

“Now I know something.”

“What?”

Amy took a deep breath.

“The person who left me at the altar gave me the chance to finally meet myself.”

Her father smiled.

“You’re not the woman who walked into Room 237 anymore.”

Amy looked back at the hotel.

“No.”

She smiled.

“I’m the woman who walked out.”

Years later, people still talked about the wedding that never happened.

They remembered the missing groom.

The unfaithful bridesmaid.

The scandal that shocked everyone.

But Amy remembered something else.

She remembered the moment she stopped fighting for someone who didn’t choose her.

The moment she stopped begging for love.

The moment she realized losing the wrong person was sometimes the beginning of finding yourself.

And in the end…

The wedding was cancelled.

But Amy’s life finally began.
