CHAPTER 3 — The Fall of Harrington Empire

The first headline appeared Monday morning.

HARRINGTON COMMERCIAL GROUP UNDER FEDERAL INVESTIGATION

By noon

Investors began withdrawing.

By evening

The board demanded Richard resign.

His empire, built over twenty years, began collapsing in days.

But Richard still believed he had one weapon left.

Vanessa.

Until he discovered she was saving herself.

Vanessa secretly met prosecutors.

She offered information.

Documents.

Messages.

Everything.

She wanted immunity.

She wanted protection.

She wanted to survive.

But Harrison had predicted this.

He already knew Vanessa would betray Richard.

Because people like Vanessa never loved anyone.

They loved power.

During the trial, the courtroom was silent.

Vanessa sat at the defendant’s table.

Richard beside her.

Former lovers.

Now enemies.

Harrison stood before the jury.

Calm.

Controlled.

Dangerous.

“The defendants want you to believe this was an accident.”

He walked slowly.

“But accidents do not involve secret accounts.”

A document appeared on the screen.

“Accidents do not involve messages discussing divorce plans.”

Another document.

“Accidents do not involve celebrating another woman’s suffering.”

The courtroom became silent.

Harrison looked directly at Vanessa.

“You thought my sister was weak.”

A pause.

“You thought pregnancy made her powerless.”

Another pause.

“You were wrong.”

The verdict came three days later.

Vanessa Kensington was found guilty of aggravated assault.

Richard Harrington was convicted of financial crimes and conspiracy.

The man who once owned half the city lost everything.

His company.

His reputation.

His freedom.

Months later

Khloe held her newborn daughter in her arms.

Harrison stood beside her.

The baby’s tiny fingers wrapped around his hand.

“She looks like you,” he said.

Khloe smiled.

“She has your stubbornness.”

Harrison laughed softly.

May you like

For the first time in months

He laughed.
