Chapter 10 — Rachel’s Last Secret

Rachel cornered Marcus inside an abandoned train carriage.

Police surrounded the terminal but could not fire while the neurotoxin remained unstable.

Through a broken window, Olivia saw Rachel pointing the gun at Marcus.

“You promised to erase the evidence against me,” Rachel said.

Marcus smiled.

“You were evidence.”

Rachel’s hand trembled.

For years, she had lived in Olivia’s shadow.

Olivia was wealthier, admired and effortlessly trusted.

Rachel loved her, but resentment had slowly poisoned that love.

Daniel recognized it.

He told Rachel that Olivia pitied her.

He promised Rachel money and freedom if she helped him access Brightwell’s accounts.

“I never wanted her dead,” Rachel cried.

Marcus moved closer.

“But part of you wanted her to lose everything.”

Rachel did not deny it.

Olivia stepped into the carriage before police could stop her.

“Then look at me.”

Rachel turned.

Olivia’s eyes were filled with pain, not hatred.

“You didn’t betray me because I had more than you. You betrayed me because Daniel made you believe my love was humiliation.”

Rachel began sobbing.

“I’m sorry.”

Marcus lunged for the gun.

Rachel fired.

The bullet struck the wall.

The refrigerated container fell from Marcus’s hands and slid toward the open carriage door.

Sophie threw herself forward and caught it before it dropped onto the tracks.

Marcus grabbed Olivia by the throat and used her as a shield.

“Your father took my brother’s life,” he hissed.

“No,” Richard said from the doorway.

Everyone froze.

Richard had followed police into the terminal.

“My life was destroyed,” he said. “But you chose what to become afterward.”

Marcus’s grip tightened.

“I did this for you.”

“You did it because revenge made you feel powerful.”

For one moment, Marcus’s face revealed the abandoned younger brother he had once been.

Then his expression hardened.

He raised his weapon toward Richard.

Daniel appeared behind him.

Despite his wounded shoulder and police restraints, he had escaped the ambulance transporting him.

Daniel slammed into Marcus.

The gun fired.

Both men fell from the carriage onto the tracks below.

Olivia screamed.

When police reached them, Marcus was dead.

Daniel was still breathing.

But the bullet had struck his spine.
