CHAPTER 4 — THE DAUGHTER WHO NEVER KNEW THE TRUTH

The entire ballroom disappeared for Lena.

All she could see was the picture.

Her mother.

The woman who had raised her alone.

The woman who always told her:

“Never let someone’s money make you feel smaller.”

Lena’s hands began to shake.

“No
”

She looked at Richard.

“Why do you have that picture?”

Richard lowered his voice.

“Because I have been searching for her for years.”

Celeste stared.

“You know her?”

Richard nodded.

“She was one of my father’s employees.”

Walter looked confused.

“Your father?”

Richard looked toward him.

“My father owned this hotel before I did.”

The truth slowly unfolded.

Years ago, Emily had discovered the Caldwell family’s illegal actions.

She tried to expose them.

Instead, she lost her job.

Her reputation.

Everything.

But she kept one thing.

Her daughter.

Lena.

Celeste stepped backward.

“You expect everyone to believe this?”

Richard looked at her.

“No.”

He pulled out a folder.

“I expect evidence to speak.”

Inside were documents.

Emails.

Financial records.

Witness statements.

Everything.

Celeste’s carefully built world began collapsing.

But then...

She smiled.

A small, dangerous smile.

“You think this ends me?”

Everyone looked at her.

She reached into her purse.

And pulled out a phone.

“I have something too.”

She pressed a button.

A recording started playing.

Lena’s voice filled the ballroom.

“I need this job.”

Everyone froze.

It was Lena.

But the recording was incomplete.

Edited.

Manipulated.

Celeste smiled.

“Your brave little employee isn’t exactly innocent.”

Walter felt anger rising.

Because he knew exactly what she was doing.

Destroying someone who couldn't fight back.

Again.

But before anyone could speak...

Another voice came from the entrance.

“Actually
”

Everyone turned.

An elderly woman stood there.

Security immediately moved toward her.

Richard stopped them.

Because he recognized her.

“Emily?”

The woman looked at Celeste.

“Yes.”

Celeste’s face completely changed.

May you like

Because the person she thought she had destroyed...

Had returned.
