CHAPTER 3 — The Truth Victoria Buried

Victoria Harrington had always been careful.

That was what made her dangerous.

She never left evidence.

She never lost control in public.

She never allowed anyone to see the darkness behind the perfect image.

Except now…

Nathan had seen it.

And he was coming for the truth.

Nathan arrived at Victoria’s private lawyer’s office that afternoon.

He didn’t come as her husband.

He came as someone searching for answers.

The lawyer looked nervous.

“Mr. Harrington…”

Nathan placed a file on the desk.

“I want everything connected to Victoria’s past.”

The lawyer hesitated.

“That information is private.”

Nathan leaned forward.

“My children were abused.”

The lawyer looked away.

And that reaction confirmed something.

“You knew.”

The man said nothing.

Nathan stood.

“You knew.”

Finally, the lawyer whispered:

“Your wife made sure everyone stayed silent.”

Three hours later…

Nathan received the documents.

And one name appeared again and again.

Daniel Harrington.

Victoria’s first son.

A child nobody knew existed.

Nathan stared at the photograph.

A little boy.

Six years old.

Dark hair.

A shy smile.

Then he read the report.

His hands started shaking.

Daniel had disappeared fifteen years earlier.

Officially…

an accident.

But the details were strange.

The investigation was closed within days.

The records were sealed.

And the person who signed the final documents?

Victoria Harrington.

That night, Nathan confronted her.

Victoria was sitting calmly in the mansion library.

Almost like nothing happened.

“You found Daniel.”

Nathan’s eyes narrowed.

“You knew I would eventually.”

Victoria looked at him.

“He was weak.”

Nathan felt disgust.

“He was your son.”

“He was a problem.”

The words were quiet.

Cold.

Nathan stepped backward.

Because he finally understood.

Victoria didn’t see children as people.

She saw them as things to control.

Things to perfect.

Things to own.

“What happened to Daniel?”

Victoria looked toward the fireplace.

“He couldn’t accept discipline.”

Nathan’s voice dropped.

“Where is he?”

Victoria said nothing.

Then…

a sound came from behind them.

A voice.

An older voice.

“He’s alive.”

Nathan turned.

An elderly woman stood in the doorway.

The former housekeeper.

The woman who had worked in the mansion fifteen years ago.

Victoria’s face changed.

“You.”

The woman stepped inside.

“I stayed quiet because I was scared.”

She looked at Nathan.

“But your children deserve the truth.”

Nathan stared at her.

“Where is Daniel?”

The woman’s eyes filled with tears.

“He’s been living under another name.”

A pause.

“Because Victoria made everyone believe he was dead.”

The next day…

Nathan found him.

A thirty-year-old man living a quiet life far away from the Harrington name.

When Nathan showed him the photograph…

Daniel immediately recognized it.

“My mother kept this?”

Nathan nodded.

Daniel laughed sadly.

“She never loved me.”

Nathan didn’t know what to say.

Because for the first time…

he understood.

Victoria’s cruelty wasn’t new.

It had been hidden for decades.

That evening, Nathan returned home.

Victoria was gone.

The police found her car abandoned near the old family property.

Inside was one note.

Only one sentence.

“If I cannot control my family, nobody will have them.”

Nathan read the words.

And his blood froze.

Because Victoria was not running away.

May you like

She was planning something.

Something involving the children.
