Megan did not leave the house that night.
Not because she forgave Ryan.
Not because she wanted to save their marriage.
She stayed because the message on his phone changed everything.
The affair was not the betrayal.

A carefully designed wound meant to make her angry, emotional, unstable.

"Stress will help the petition."
Megan sat alone in the guest room, one hand resting on her stomach while Ryan’s phone sat on the table in front of her.
For years, she had trusted him with everything.

At 3:17 in the morning, Megan unlocked his phone.
She expected to find messages between him and Brooke.

Megan’s breathing stopped.
She opened the files.
The first page contained notes from Ryan’s lawyer.
"The pregnancy has created emotional instability. If documented correctly, Megan’s behavior can be used to question her mental fitness after delivery."
Her fingers started shaking.
Another file appeared.
"The affair revelation should trigger an emotional reaction. Avoid physical confrontation, but record any aggressive behavior."
Megan stared at the screen.
They had planned this.
They wanted her to discover them.

Because a broken woman was easier to control.
A mother who looked unstable was easier to take a child away from.
The baby moved beneath her hand.
This time, Megan did not feel helpless.

The next morning, Ryan walked into the kitchen wearing a perfectly pressed shirt.

Ryan swallowed.
"I made a mistake."
She almost laughed.
A mistake was forgetting an anniversary.

Sleeping with her sister was a choice.
Planning to take her baby was a war.
"I know about the petition," Megan said.
Ryan froze.
For the first time, fear appeared on his face.

"You went through my phone?"
"No."
She placed the phone on the table.
"You left your plan where I could find it."
