Chapter 11 - The Final Betrayal

Twelve hours later, deep inside the high-security federal courthouse in lower Manhattan, federal marshals led Marcella into a private interrogation room.
Nico, Rafe, and Vivia sat on one side of the reinforced glass partition, accompanied by the United States Attorney.
Marcella looked completely broken. The haughty socialite who once ruled Manhattan high society was gone, replaced by a hollow shell in handcuffs and prison chains.
"I signed the full confession," Marcella whispered, her voice barely audible through the speaker grille. "I gave the feds every account number, every cartel contact, and every bribe paid to the board members. I'm facing life without parole."
She looked up, her red-rimmed eyes locking onto Vivia.
"Vivia..." Marcella said, her voice cracking. "The dress... why did Mom put the drive in that specific dress?"
Vivia stood up, walking slowly to the glass partition. From her bag, she pulled out a small, framed photograph that had been tucked inside the silk lining alongside the flash drive.
It was a photograph from twenty-five years ago. It showed their mother, young and radiant, holding baby Nico and toddler Marcella in her arms, wearing that exact same antique wedding dress with a radiant smile on her face.
"Mom kept this dress because it was the day she believed our family could be happy," Vivia said softly, her voice steady and clear. "She hid the truth inside it because she hoped that if you ever saw it again, you would remember who you used to be before the money poisoned your soul."
Marcella stared at the photograph. A single, heavy tear rolled down her cheek, cutting through the grime on her face as the weight of her irreparable choices crushed her spirit entirely.
"I'm sorry..." Marcella sobbed, burying her face against the cold metal table. "I'm so sorry..."
Two federal marshals stepped forward, unlocked her chair, and escorted her through the heavy steel door toward the maximum-security transport van waiting below.

Nico turned to Rafe and Vivia, putting his arms around both of them as they walked out of the courthouse into the warm afternoon sunshine. The storm had passed, leaving behind clear blue skies over the city.
The Vance family name had been dragged through fire and blood, but as Nico looked at his brother and sister, he knew the empire was finally in the right hands.
