Chapter 4 — Judgment Day
Three months later...
The courtroom was packed beyond capacity.
Reporters lined every aisle.
Federal prosecutors filled the front rows.
Vanessa Kensington stood before the judge wearing an orange prison uniform instead of designer fashion.
Richard Harrington sat beside his defense attorneys, looking twenty years older than he had on the courthouse steps.
Everything Harrison had promised had come true.
His investigation uncovered decades of corporate fraud, bribery, tax evasion, money laundering, illegal surveillance, and witness intimidation.
The GPS tracker implanted inside Khloe revealed the darkest truth of all.
Richard had ordered a private security contractor to monitor his own wife throughout her pregnancy.
He wanted proof that the child was biologically his before rewriting his will.
Vanessa discovered the surveillance...
Then convinced herself that eliminating Khloe would solve everything.

The judge adjusted his glasses.
"Vanessa Kensington, for attempted murder, conspiracy, and multiple related felony offenses..."
He paused.
"I sentence you to life imprisonment."
Vanessa collapsed into tears as deputies led her away.
Then the judge turned toward Richard.
"Richard Harrington..."
"The evidence demonstrates not only criminal conspiracy but an extraordinary pattern of fraud spanning nearly two decades."
"Your sentence is forty-two years in federal prison."
The gavel struck.
Outside the courthouse, Harrison wheeled Khloe into the sunlight.
She was thinner.
The scars remained.
But in her arms rested a healthy baby girl wrapped in a pale pink blanket.
Khloe smiled through quiet tears.
"What should we name her?"
Harrison looked down at his niece.
"Hope."
Khloe nodded.
"Because after everything they tried to take from us..."
"...she's the reason we kept living."
As cameras flashed in the distance, Harrison gently kissed his niece's forehead.
For the first time since the blood stained the courthouse steps...
