Chapter 3: The Truth That Was Hidden Inside Her Home

Elena and Alex returned to the apartment together.

Not because she trusted him.

But because she finally understood something.

He wasn’t the enemy.

He was another victim.

Inside the apartment, Alex showed her everything he had found.

A hidden compartment behind the kitchen cabinet.

Old documents.

A second set of keys.

A USB drive.

Elena plugged it into her laptop.

A video appeared.

The person on screen was her brother.

Alive.

Older.

Tired.

“Elena,” he said.

“If you’re watching this, then I failed.”

Her breathing stopped.

Her brother looked directly into the camera.

“I found out the truth about our parents’ company. The apartment was never just an apartment.”

He explained everything.

Years earlier, their father had hidden financial records proving powerful people had stolen millions from the company.

The evidence had been hidden inside apartment 7B.

When Elena inherited the apartment, she unknowingly became the owner of the secret.

Her brother tried to protect her.

But the people searching for the files found him first.

They didn’t kill Elena.

They erased her.

They created fake records.

They convinced everyone she had moved away.

And they waited for her to disappear forever.

The final file on the USB was a bank account.

A hidden account containing all the stolen money.

And the names of everyone involved.

Including Viktor Petrov.

The man who illegally sold Elena’s apartment.

Three days later, the story became national news.

Police arrested Viktor Petrov and several businessmen connected to the fraud.

The fake documents were exposed.

The apartment ownership was returned to Elena.

But she refused to throw Alex and Olya out.

They had nowhere else to go.

They had bought the apartment honestly.

They were victims too.

Months later, the apartment looked different again.

But this time, it felt alive.

The children’s toys stayed.

The plants grew again.

Elena even kept the gray bathrobe.

Not because she forgot what happened.

But because it reminded her of the strangest truth she had ever learned:

Sometimes the people who enter your life by accident are the ones who help you take it back.

One evening, Alex handed Elena a small envelope.

“What is this?”

He smiled.

“It was hidden behind the old wall.”

Elena opened it.

Inside was one final letter.

From her brother.

Only three words were written.

“I knew you’d return.”

Elena smiled through tears.

For the first time in months…

May you like

She finally felt home.

THE END
