Vera reached for his hand.
“I don’t need perfection, Igor.”
“I need honesty.”
Months later, Igor rebuilt his life.
He worked harder.

And he never again made a major decision without Vera knowing.

“I thought you were refusing to help my son.”
Vera poured her tea.
“And now?”
Tamara looked at her.
“Now I understand.”
“You weren’t refusing to help him.”
“You were the only person brave enough to make him responsible.”
Vera smiled softly.
