Chapter 11 - PHASE TWO

At 9:00 Monday morning, every Blackwood Holdings bank account froze.

At 9:03, company email servers shut down.

At 9:07, three lenders demanded immediate repayment of nearly eight hundred million dollars.

At 9:12, Marcus Reed disappeared.

Ethan stared at the emergency financial dashboard.

“He planned this years ago.”

Claire stood beside him.

“Julian didn’t only steal.”

“He built a collapse switch.”

Richard looked through the ledger.

“Here.”

A series of coded entries listed dates.

Monday’s date was circled.

Harold sat under federal guard across the room.

His expression had become gray.

“What happens today?”

Richard asked.

Harold shook his head.

“I don’t know.”

Eleanor laughed bitterly.

“You always were useless when someone wasn’t flattering you.”

Harold looked at her.

“You slept with me.”

“That was my first clue.”

Even Claire almost smiled.

Mara entered.

“We found Marcus Reed’s vehicle at the airport.”

“Plane?”

“No.”

“Train?”

“No.”

“Security footage shows him entering a parking garage.”

“He never came out.”

Claire understood.

“He switched cars.”

Mara nodded.

“Exactly.”

Richard studied the ledger again.

“Phase Two wasn’t about money.”

“What was it?”

“Control.”

Claire looked at the trust.

“If the company defaults, emergency voting provisions activate.”

Ethan stared at her.

“Who gets control?”

Claire read the clauses.

“The largest secured creditor.”

Richard went pale.

“Julian.”

Claire shook her head.

“No.”

“The loans were reassigned six months ago.”

“To who?”

She read the holding company name.

“Pierce Strategic Capital.”

Everyone looked at Harold.

Harold stared back.

“I’ve never heard of it.”

Eleanor laughed.

“It has your name.”

“I didn’t create it.”

Richard suddenly understood.

“Julian created it in Harold’s name.”

“Why?”

Claire answered.

“So when Blackwood collapses, Harold looks responsible.”

“And Julian takes control through the offshore company behind Pierce Strategic.”

Mara stared at the ledger.

“He planned to frame everyone.”

Eleanor.

Harold.

Claire.

Even Richard.

Ethan looked at his father.

“What stops Phase Two?”

Claire studied the trust amendment.

“Me.”

Everyone turned.

“Richard gave me temporary voting control.”

“If the original document is recognized by the board, I can block emergency transfer provisions.”

Eleanor shook her head.

“Harold’s board won’t recognize it.”

Claire looked at her.

“Then we make them.”

The emergency board meeting began at noon.

This time federal agents stood outside.

Claire sat at the head of the table.

Several directors protested immediately.

“You have no authority.”

Claire placed the original trust on the table.

“Actually, I do.”

Harold’s deputy chairman read the first page.

Then the second.

His face changed.

Claire continued.

“Richard Blackwood is alive.”

The doors opened.

Richard entered.

Every voice stopped.

One director dropped his pen.

Another whispered.

“My God.”

Richard looked around the room.

“I apologize for missing a few meetings.”

Claire almost smiled.

Ethan did.

Richard’s return destroyed the existing assumption of death.

The old voting agreements changed instantly.

Claire called a motion.

Freeze all emergency creditor transfers.

Remove Marcus Reed as general counsel.

Suspend all directors tied to Pierce Strategic.

Authorize independent federal access to financial records.

One by one, hands rose.

Eleanor watched silently from the back of the room.

The company survived.

For now.

Then every television screen turned black.

The boardroom lights dimmed.

A video appeared.

Julian.

Alive.

Of course.

Mara swore softly.

Julian stood inside a room Claire recognized.

The Blue Room at Blackwood Manor.

“Good afternoon.”

Ethan stared at the screen.

“You’ve got to be kidding me.”

Julian smiled.

“Congratulations, Claire.”

“You stopped Phase Two.”

“Richard always did underestimate you.”

Claire remained seated.

“What do you want?”

“I’m not speaking live.”

The video continued.

“If you are seeing this, then Marcus has either failed or betrayed me.”

“Probably both.”

Richard clenched his jaw.

Julian continued.

“Phase Two was never the final plan.”

Claire’s stomach tightened.

“Blackwood Holdings was only leverage.”

“The real asset has always been the foundation.”

Claire looked at Richard.

He understood too late.

Julian continued.

“At 4:00 p.m., records from thirty international Blackwood Foundation accounts will be released.”

“Some show theft.”

“Some show bribery.”

“Some show payments to public officials.”

“Some are real.”

“Some are not.”

“Good luck proving which.”

The screen changed.

A countdown appeared.

03:56:21.

Claire whispered.

“He’s going to poison everything.”

Ethan understood.

“If he releases fake records mixed with real ones, every legitimate charity project collapses.”

Richard nodded.

“Thousands of employees.”

“Clinics.”

“Schools.”

“Food programs.”

Eleanor stared at the screen.

“I know where the foundation server is.”

Mara looked at her.

“Where?”

Eleanor hesitated.

Then she answered.

“Under Blackwood Manor.”

Ethan frowned.

“There’s no server room under the manor.”

May you like

Eleanor looked at him.

“There are two floors under that house you have never seen.”
