Chapter 1: The Fall of Nathan Ashford

The first helicopter landed on the private helipad behind Blackthorn Manor at exactly 12:17 a.m.

Nathan Ashford had expected police.

Maybe a lawyer.

Maybe a desperate attempt from a broken wife who had finally lost control.

He had not expected an army.

The massive doors of the grand hall opened slowly.

Several men in dark suits entered first.

Not security.

Not police.

Private investigators.

Behind them walked an older man wearing a charcoal suit, his silver hair perfectly combed, his expression calm.

But the moment Nathan saw him...

The arrogance disappeared from his face.

Because everyone in the business world knew that man.

Alexander Sterling.

The founder of Sterling International Holdings.

A billionaire whose companies controlled shipping, technology, banking, and global investments.

A man who had quietly built an empire larger than most governments.

And the man Nathan Ashford believed was just a retired accountant.

Evelyn slowly lifted her eyes.

“Dad.”

Alexander Sterling looked at his daughter.

For a moment, the powerful businessman vanished.

Only a father remained.

His expression changed when he saw her condition.

The bruises.

The torn dress.

The blood.

The pain she had hidden.

His jaw tightened.

But his voice remained calm.

“Who did this?”

Nobody answered.

Nathan tried to recover.

He laughed nervously.

“Mr. Sterling, I think there’s been a misunderstanding.”

Alexander looked at him.

A cold silence filled the room.

“You know my daughter’s name.”

Nathan swallowed.

“I know she’s my wife.”

“No.”

Alexander stepped closer.

“You knew she was your wife.”

“But you never knew who she was.”

Celeste immediately stood.

“You’re exaggerating. Evelyn has always been unstable. She attacked me tonight.”

Alexander slowly turned toward her.

One of his security men placed a tablet on the table.

The screen showed the footage.

Every strike.

Every word.

Every laugh.

Every moment Nathan and Celeste believed they were safe.

Celeste’s face turned pale.

Nathan stared at the screen.

Impossible.

The security system had been disconnected.

He had checked.

Alexander smiled slightly.

“You disconnected the mansion cameras.”

Nathan froze.

“But you forgot one thing.”

He looked at Evelyn’s sapphire pendant.

“You were never controlling the entire system.”

Evelyn looked away.

She remembered her father’s words.

"Power is not showing everyone what you own."

"Power is letting people reveal themselves when they think nobody is watching."

Nathan stepped backward.

“You recorded me?”

Evelyn finally spoke.

Her voice was quiet.

But stronger than ever.

“You recorded yourself.”

The room went silent.

The next morning, every major news network carried the same headline.

ASHFORD GLOBAL CEO ACCUSED OF FRAUD, ABUSE, AND FINANCIAL CRIMES

Nathan’s empire began collapsing before sunrise.

The evidence was overwhelming.

Millions transferred through fake companies.

Hidden accounts.

Illegal investments.

Celeste’s secret ownership agreements.

Everything.

But Nathan still believed he could survive.

Because powerful men always believed there was another door.

Another escape.

Another person they could manipulate.

Until Alexander Sterling entered the courtroom.

And closed every exit.
