Chapter 3 – The Evidence They Never Found

The moment Julian and Eleanor left, I reached beneath my hospital pillow.
The small flash drive was still there.
Months earlier, when Julian froze our accounts and threw me out, I had copied every document I could find.
Wire transfers.
Fake consulting contracts.
Tax records.
Emails.
One folder carried a name I had never forgotten.
Project Phoenix.
At first, I thought it was another shell company.
I was wrong.
Late that afternoon, my former supervisor from the law firm, Daniel Mercer, arrived at my hospital room.
He had received the encrypted email I scheduled months ago—one that would automatically send if I failed to cancel it.
"I reviewed everything," Daniel said.
His face looked grim.
"Vivian... this isn't ordinary financial fraud."
He opened his laptop.
Millions of dollars had moved through more than twenty shell companies.
Charities.
Medical suppliers.
Construction firms that didn't exist.
Each transaction ended in accounts secretly controlled by Julian and Eleanor.
"This is enough to send them both to prison."
Before I could answer, the hospital television suddenly switched to breaking news.
Federal investigators had just raided one of Julian's corporate offices.
Someone had leaked internal financial records.
Daniel slowly smiled.
"I wasn't the only person who received your files."

Across the city, officers were already carrying boxes of evidence out of Vance Holdings.
Julian's empire had begun collapsing before he even knew the investigation existed.
