Chapter 3 – The Truth Comes Out
Daniel slowly climbed to his feet, rubbing his bruised wrists while Noah wrapped both arms tightly around him.
"I'm sorry, Danny..."
"You did great," Daniel whispered.
"You were brave."
Minutes later, three black military SUVs pulled onto the street.
Every conversation stopped.
Colonel Samuel Brooks stepped out wearing his service uniform.
His posture was calm.
His face was not.
He walked straight to Daniel without saying a word.
Only after carefully checking his son's bruised face and scraped hands did he finally look toward Officer Willis.
"Did my son threaten you?"
"No, sir."
"Did he resist?"
"No, sir."
"Did he attempt to flee?"
"No, sir."
Samuel nodded once.
"So why was your knee on his back?"
Willis couldn't answer.
The neighbors' cameras captured every second.
Sergeant Morgan quietly collected statements from witnesses.
One by one, every account matched.
Daniel had cooperated from the very beginning.
One elderly woman stepped forward.
"I watched everything from my porch."
"He never fought."
Another neighbor raised his phone.
"I recorded the entire incident."
Morgan accepted the phone.
The video left no room for interpretation.
Daniel had obeyed every command.
The force used against him was completely unnecessary.
Officer Willis finally lowered his head.
"I... made a terrible mistake."
Samuel looked directly into his eyes.
"A mistake is forgetting someone's name."
"What happened here was a choice."
Within the hour, the police chief arrived personally.
After reviewing the footage, he immediately relieved Willis of duty pending a full internal investigation.
Standing before the gathered crowd and local reporters, the chief addressed Daniel.
"On behalf of this department, I sincerely apologize."
