Chapter 3 – The Witness No One Expected
The police had barely escorted Daniel outside when Lena finally spoke.
Her voice was barely above a whisper.
"I'm sorry."
She wasn't speaking to Daniel.
She was speaking to me.
Dad frowned.
"What does she know?"
Lena slowly sat down, her hands shaking.
"I've worked as Daniel's assistant for four years."
"I came today because he told me he wanted someone to witness you signing divorce papers."
She looked directly at the officers.
"But this wasn't the first time."
Silence filled the room.
"There were cameras."
Everyone turned toward her.
"He installed hidden cameras inside the house months ago."
"He recorded every assault."
Dad's eyes narrowed.
"Why?"
Lena reached into her purse and removed a flash drive.
"He enjoyed watching them afterward."
The words made my stomach turn.
"I copied everything."
Daniel suddenly exploded from the police car outside.
"She's lying!"
The officers forced him back into the vehicle.
Lena continued anyway.
"There are twelve videos."
"Medical records."
"Photos."
"And messages where he bragged that no jury would ever believe a pregnant woman over a successful businessman."
Dad accepted the flash drive without saying a word.
One officer immediately called for detectives.
