Chapter 2: The Recording That Changed Everything

The hallway became completely silent.
The grandmother stared at the recorder in Claraâs hand.
âWhere did you get that?â
Clara pressed the button.
A voice echoed through the mansion.
The grandmotherâs own voice.
Three years earlier.
âIf Clara refuses to give me control of the company, make sure she disappears.â
The little girl covered her mouth.
The grandmotherâs face turned pale.
The recording continued.
âShe has no family. No power. Once sheâs gone, everything belongs to us.â
Clara looked at her daughter.
Her eyes filled with sadness.
âThis is why I ran.â
The grandmother immediately stepped forward.
âThat recording means nothing!â
But Clara shook her head.
âIt means everything.â
She pointed toward the ceiling.
âBecause I wasnât the only one recording.â
The grandmother looked up.
Hidden cameras.
Small red lights blinked.
The old womanâs confidence finally disappeared.
âYouâŠâ
âYou thought I was hiding because I was weak,â Clara said.
âBut I was waiting.â
The little girl held onto her mother.
âMommy, are we safe now?â
Clara looked down.
âYes.â
But before she could say moreâŠ
The mansion lights suddenly went out.
Darkness swallowed the hallway.
A manâs voice came from the shadows.
âNot yet.â
Clara froze.
She knew that voice.
May you like
The grandmother smiled.
Because someone else had arrived.
