“Get Out of Bed!” My Mother-in-Law Yelled — Then She Saw the Blood and Broke Down

“Get Out of Bed!” My Mother-in-Law Accused Me of Wasting the Day — But When She Opened the Curtains, She Started Crying

Part 1

At exactly 11:18 a.m., Carol Bennett stormed upstairs.

Since sunrise, she had been running around the house.

She had welcomed relatives, prepared breakfast, cleaned every room, and handled every detail left behind from the wedding celebration the night before.

Everyone had helped.

Everyone except one person.

Her son’s new wife.

Sophie.

Carol stopped outside the bedroom door with her arms crossed.

She had already made up her mind.

There was no excuse.

The girl was spoiled.

Lazy.

And after only one day of marriage, she was already acting like she was above the family.

Carol knocked once.

Nothing.

Her expression hardened.

“SOPHIE!”

Silence.

Not a word.

Not a movement.

Carol grabbed the door handle and pushed it open.

The room felt wrong.

Too quiet.

Too heavy.

The curtains were closed, blocking out the morning sun.

And in the middle of the bed, Sophie lay completely still beneath the blankets.

Carol’s anger grew.

“I’ve had enough,” she said sharply.

“You cannot spend half the day sleeping while everyone else works.”

She walked toward the window.

Then she pulled the curtains open.

Sunlight flooded the room.

And that was when everything changed.

Carol froze.

Her anger disappeared in an instant.

Because she finally saw what was hidden beneath the blanket.

The sheets were stained with blood.

A deep, frightening red spread across the fabric.

“Sophie…”

Carol’s voice dropped.

She rushed to the bed.

“Sophie? Can you hear me?”

No response.

Sophie didn’t move.

Her breathing was barely noticeable.

Her skin looked pale.

Almost gray.

The woman Carol had just called lazy looked like she was barely holding onto consciousness.

Then Carol noticed something on the nightstand.

A hospital bracelet.

And a folded discharge summary.

Her hands trembled as she picked up the paper.

She opened it.

Her eyes stopped on one sentence.

PATIENT DIAGNOSED WITH LIFE-THREATENING ANEMIA. STRICT BED REST REQUIRED.

Carol’s fingers went numb.

She read the line again.

And again.

The anger she had carried all morning disappeared completely.

Sophie wasn’t avoiding responsibility.

She wasn’t being lazy.

She had been hiding how seriously ill she was.

She had been suffering in silence.

“DANIEL!”

Carol’s voice shook as she ran toward the hallway.

“DANIEL! GET THE CAR RIGHT NOW!”

Her son rushed upstairs, confused by the panic in her voice.

But before Carol could explain, something slipped from underneath Sophie’s mattress.

An envelope.

Sealed.

Hidden.

Carol slowly picked it up.

She looked at Sophie’s unconscious face.

Then at the envelope in her hand.

Something about it felt wrong.

Like it was a secret Sophie had fought desperately to keep buried.

Carol carefully opened it.

Inside was the truth Sophie never wanted her husband to discover.

A secret so painful...

A secret powerful enough to make Sophie almost cancel the wedding the night before.

And now Carol was about to learn why.
