CHAPTER 2 — The Woman Who Never Died

The truth came out piece by piece.
My mother had not died.
Seven years ago, she discovered something terrifying.
A private research group was developing technology that could manipulate the human nervous system.
The company behind it was connected to powerful people.
Politicians.
Doctors.
Business owners.
Including Camille.
“When I found out what they planned for Sophie, I tried to expose them,” my mother explained.
“But they threatened your life.”
I looked at her.
“You left me believing you were dead?”
Her eyes filled with regret.
“I had no choice.”
Camille laughed bitterly.
“You expect him to believe you?”
Everyone turned.
She stood there, no longer pretending.
“You were always weak.”
My blood turned cold.
“What did you do to my daughter?”
Camille smiled.
A cold, emotionless smile.
“I saved her.”
Nobody understood.
Then she continued.
“Sophie was born with something rare.”
“A nervous system capable of healing itself.”
“She was valuable.”
My fists tightened.
“She was a child.”
Camille ignored me.
“She could have changed medicine forever.”
The homeless man stepped forward.
“No.”
“She could have made you billions.”
The man revealed his identity.
His name was Daniel Reeves.
A former neurological engineer.
The same man who helped design the device.
“I created it.”
Everyone stared.
Daniel looked down.
“And then I realized what they were doing.”
May you like
“They weren't healing people.”
“They were controlling them.”
