Chapter 14 - The Final Trap

Arthur walked down the grand marble staircase, his steps slow, deliberate, and echoing like thunder through the silent room.
Julian walked right beside his father, head held high, holding a tablet displaying the real-time asset frozen orders.
"You failed, Maria," Arthur said, his gravelly voice cutting through the thick atmosphere of the room.
"The board of directors just held an emergency vote based on the live video evidence," Julian announced to the crowd.
"Your shares are frozen, your bank accounts are locked, and your power of attorney is officially revoked," Julian added smoothly.
Maria glared at Julian with pure, unadulterated hatred, her chest heaving as tears of rage filled her eyes.
"You ruined everything!" Maria spat, her aristocratic mask completely shattered.
"You were supposed to rot in that elevator shaft!" she screamed, abandoning all pretense of innocence.
The journalists gasped, capturing every word of her violent confession on their live feeds.
Two heavy-duty municipal police cruisers pulled up outside the front entrance with sirens wailing loudly.
Tactical police officers burst through the double doors, rifles raised, sweeping the hall.
"Maria Vance! Dr. Harrison! Stand down and put your hands where we can see them!" the police commander shouted.
Dr. Harrison immediately dropped to his knees, throwing his hands into the air in terror.
"It was all her idea! She paid me twenty million dollars to fake the death certificate!" Dr. Harrison sobbed, begging for a plea deal on the spot.
Maria looked around the room, realizing she was completely surrounded by armed officers, media cameras, and hostile board members.
A sinister, unhinged smile slowly crept across her lips as she backed away toward the rear stage exit.
"You think you've won, Arthur?" Maria whispered in a chilling tone.
"If I can't have your empire... neither can you," she muttered with a terrifying laugh.
She pulled a small black remote detonator from her velvet dress pocket and slammed her thumb onto the red button.
A high-pitched electronic countdown hummed from inside the wall panels beneath the chapel altar.
"The entire central foundation of this house is rigged with demolition charges!" Maria laughed hysterically.
