CHAPTER 1: The 112 Days of Lies

I sat in the dark office long after my mother and Elena had fallen asleep.

The only light came from my laptop screen.

A single folder was open.

SECURITY ARCHIVE — HOME SYSTEM

Inside were hundreds of files.

Dates.

Times.

Recordings.

Every moment Vanessa thought nobody would ever see.

For eight months, while I was thousands of miles away in Saudi Arabia, my wife had built a completely different world inside our home.

A world filled with fear.

A world where my mother suffered in silence.

I clicked the first video.

The timestamp appeared.

Day 17.

The footage showed Vanessa standing in the kitchen.

My mother was sitting in her wheelchair.

At first, it looked like a normal conversation.

Then Vanessa’s expression changed.

“You’re making me look like a terrible wife,” she said.

My mother looked confused.

“I only asked for my medicine.”

Vanessa laughed.

“Do you know how exhausting you are?”

My hands tightened around the laptop.

I continued watching.

Every day was worse.

Vanessa complained about taking care of my mother.

She ignored medical appointments.

She hid important documents.

She changed my mother’s medication schedule without permission.

And then I saw something that made my blood turn cold.

A man entered the house.

I froze the video.

I zoomed in.

It was Vanessa’s brother, Marcus.

The same man who had always defended her.

The same man who had told me:

“Your mother is too demanding. Vanessa deserves a break.”

But now I saw the truth.

Marcus wasn’t helping.

He was planning.

I watched another recording.

Marcus was standing in my office.

Holding documents.

Vanessa stood beside him.

“If Daniel finds out, everything is ruined,” she whispered.

Marcus smiled.

“He won’t find out. He’s too busy playing hero overseas.”

My heart sank.

They weren’t just abusing my mother.

They were preparing to take control of everything.

My home.

My money.

My family.

I searched through the files faster.

Then I found the blue sewing box.

The one Elena told me to check.

I grabbed my coat and drove back to the house.

My mother’s room was exactly as Elena described.

The blue sewing box sat hidden inside the closet.

My hands shook as I opened it.

Inside were dozens of handwritten notes.

Medical records.

Photographs.

And one small voice recorder.

I pressed play.

My mother’s weak voice filled the room.

“Daniel… if you’re hearing this, I’m sorry.”

I closed my eyes.

“I didn’t want to worry you while you were working.”

“She told me you would choose your career over me.”

“She told me nobody would believe an old woman.”

A tear rolled down my face.

My mother continued.

“But Elena believed me.”

“She was the only one who protected me.”

I looked toward the hallway.

Elena was standing there quietly.

She had heard everything.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” I asked.

Her eyes lowered.

“Because Vanessa threatened to fire me.”

“She said if I spoke, your mother would be left alone.”

I stared at the woman standing in front of me.

A housekeeper.

Someone Vanessa believed was powerless.

But she had shown more courage than anyone.

At that moment, I made my decision.

Vanessa had spent eight months destroying my family.

Now I was going to destroy the lies she built.
