CHAPTER 1 — The Woman They Thought They Could Destroy

Yulia did not go home immediately.
She stood outside the apartment building for several minutes, hiding behind the cold concrete wall, trying to control her breathing.
Everything inside her wanted to explode.
She wanted to run back inside.
She wanted to throw the truth in Boris’s face.
She wanted to ask him one question:
“How long have you been lying to me?”
But Yulia knew something important.
A person who betrayed her for years would not confess because she asked.
A person like Boris would only admit the truth when he had no way left to escape.
So instead of confronting him...
she walked away silently.
For the first time in years, Yulia looked at her husband differently.
The man she had cooked for.
The man she had supported.
The man she defended when others said he was irresponsible.
Suddenly, every memory felt like a lie.
The late nights at work.
The mysterious business trips.
The sudden need for money.
The constant questions about her apartment.
She remembered everything.
A week earlier, Boris had sat beside her on the couch.
“Yulia, we need to think about our future,” he had said.
She smiled.
“What do you mean?”
“Our apartment is just sitting there. We could sell it, invest the money, and start something bigger.”
At the time, she thought he was dreaming about building a better life together.
Now she understood.
He was not planning their future.
He was planning how to take hers.
That evening, when Boris returned home, he found Yulia preparing dinner.
Exactly like every other night.
“Hey, sweetheart,” he said, kissing her cheek.
Yulia almost stepped away.
Almost.
But she forced herself to smile.
“Long day?”
Boris sighed dramatically.
“You have no idea.”
Yulia watched him carefully.
The way he avoided eye contact.
The way he placed his phone face down.
The way he acted tired.
A performance.
Everything was a performance.
“I heard your mother needed help with the curtains,” Boris said casually.
Yulia looked at him.
“Yes. I went there.”
For half a second, Boris froze.
But he recovered quickly.
“Oh really? Was Mom okay?”
Yulia smiled softly.
“She was fine.”
Another lie.
She could not believe how easily he did it.
She decided to test him.
“Boris... why was your car there?”
Silence.
Only two seconds.
But those two seconds told Yulia everything.
“I stopped by after work,” he answered.
“Why?”
“To help Mom.”
Yulia nodded.
“I see.”
She did not argue.
She did not accuse him.
She simply continued eating.
And that scared Boris more than anger would have.
Because Yulia had always been emotional.
She cried when she was hurt.
She argued when something bothered her.
But tonight...
she was calm.
Too calm.
Later that night, while Boris slept, Yulia sat at the kitchen table.
She opened her laptop.
She checked their finances.
Their bank accounts.
Their documents.
And then she found something.
Several withdrawals.
Small amounts.
Repeated.
Every month.
Money Boris had taken without telling her.
Money sent to someone named:
Polina Sokolova.
Yulia stared at the screen.
The betrayal was now written in numbers.
Proof.
Not suspicion.
Proof.
She quietly copied every document.
Every message.
Every transaction.
Then she opened a new folder.
And named it:
“The Truth About Boris.”
For years, Boris thought Yulia was the woman he could manipulate.
The woman who would forgive everything.
The woman who would stay silent.
But he made one mistake.
He underestimated the person he betrayed.
May you like
Because the woman he was planning to destroy...
was now preparing to destroy his entire plan.
