Chapter 2: The Truth Hidden in the Recording

The next morning, the courtroom was packed.
Everyone wanted to hear the rest of the story.
The prosecutor placed a small device on the table.
“We have new evidence.”
Richard’s lawyer immediately stood.
“Objection. This evidence was not submitted before the trial.”
The judge looked at the prosecutor.
“Explain.”
The prosecutor turned toward the boy.
“Daniel found this hidden inside the old security room.”
Richard froze.
The boy looked at the device.
“I heard him talking.”
The prosecutor pressed play.
At first, there was only silence.
Then…
Richard’s voice.
Cold.
Calm.
“If the maid takes the blame, nobody will question it.”
The courtroom gasped.
The recording continued.
“She is poor. Nobody believes people like her.”
The maid covered her face.
Tears rolled down her cheeks.
She remembered standing in that room.
Begging Richard to tell the truth.
But he had chosen to destroy her instead.
The recording continued.
Then came another voice.
A younger voice.
Daniel’s voice.
“Why did you hurt her?”
Richard answered:
“Because she saw too much.”
The courtroom went completely silent.
Richard’s face turned pale.
“That recording is fake!”
The prosecutor slowly walked toward him.
“Then explain why your voice is on it.”
Richard had no answer.
For the first time…
The powerful businessman looked small.
The judge looked at Daniel.
“Is there anything else?”
The boy hesitated.
Then he nodded.
“There is one more thing.”
Everyone looked at him.
Daniel reached into his jacket again.
This time, he pulled out a small photograph.
It showed him and the maid together.
On the back were handwritten words:
“I promised his mother I would protect him.”
The maid broke down.
The courtroom watched as she walked toward Daniel.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered.
The boy shook his head.
“No.”
He smiled through his tears.
“You saved me.”
The words that started everything.
The same words that revealed the truth.
Richard watched them.
And for the first time…
He realized he had lost.
Not because of money.
Not because of the law.
May you like
But because the one person he thought was powerless…
had protected the child he tried to silence.
