Chapter 2: The Truth Behind the Video

The next morning, the entire school knew.
But not because of rumors.
Because the truth was impossible to hide.
The video had spread among students.
But this time, nobody was laughing.
They saw Emily falling.
They saw the boys celebrating.
They saw the moment she tried not to cry.
And they saw something else.
They saw Jason looking directly at the camera.
Smiling.
Principal Anderson watched the footage in silence.
When it ended, he removed his glasses.
“I don’t recognize the person in this video.”
Jason sat across from him.
His confidence was gone.
“My parents are going to sue the school,” he said.
The principal looked at him.
“Your parents may hire lawyers.”
“But no lawyer can change what you chose to do.”
Meanwhile, Emily sat in the hospital for a checkup.
The fall had caused bruising on her arms and damaged one of the wheelchair wheels.
Her father sat beside her.
“I failed you.”
Emily looked surprised.
“What?”
Daniel looked down.
“I spend every day protecting strangers.”
His voice became softer.
“But I didn’t realize someone was hurting my own daughter.”
Emily reached for his hand.
“You protected me when I called.”
Daniel smiled sadly.
“No.”
He shook his head.
“You protected yourself.”
Emily looked at him.
“You made that call.”
“You didn’t let them break you.”
That afternoon, Jason’s parents arrived at the police station.
His father immediately demanded to speak with the Chief.
“You’re destroying my son’s future!”
Daniel calmly placed the phone recording on the table.
“No.”
He pressed play.
The room filled with Jason’s laughter.
His father became silent.
Daniel continued:
“Your son destroyed his own future when he decided another person’s pain was entertainment.”
Jason’s mother covered her mouth.
For the first time, she saw what her son had done.
Not as a mistake.
Not as a prank.
But as a choice.
A week later, Emily returned to school.
Many students avoided her.
Not because they hated her.
Because they felt ashamed.
One girl approached her.
“I’m sorry.”
Emily looked up.
“For what?”
The girl lowered her head.
“I saw it happening.”
A pause.
“I didn’t stop them.”
Emily stayed quiet.
Then she said:
“Next time…”
The girl looked at her.
“Don’t just watch.”
Those words spread throughout the school.

And slowly…
Something changed.
