Chapter 3 – Daniel Comes Home

The front door burst open.

"Amelia!"

Daniel Carter ran into the mansion, still wearing yesterday's business suit.

His suitcase hit the marble floor.

He had driven through the entire night after receiving a frantic phone call from one of his cousins.

Then he saw her.

His wife sat drenched.

Her hair soaked.

Her dress clinging to her body.

One hand still protecting their unborn son.

Daniel froze.

"What happened?"

No one answered.

His eyes slowly moved toward Margaret.

Then Kevin.

Then the empty pitcher.

Understanding arrived without a single explanation.

His jaw tightened.

He walked straight to Amelia.

Without saying a word, he removed his suit jacket and wrapped it around her shoulders.

Only then did he speak.

"Who did this?"

Kevin attempted a weak smile.

"It was just—"

"Don't."

Daniel's voice was ice cold.

Kevin immediately fell silent.

Daniel carefully knelt beside Amelia.

"Are you hurt?"

She nodded once.

"The baby?"

Tears finally filled her eyes.

"The doctors don't know yet."

Daniel closed his eyes.

For a long moment...

He said nothing.

Then he stood.

He turned toward his mother.

"I trusted you."

Margaret stepped forward.

"Daniel, listen—"

"No."

His voice echoed through the mansion.

"You waited until I left."

"You humiliated my wife."

"You endangered my child."

"And you did it inside my own home."

Margaret blinked.

"Your home?"

Daniel looked at her with quiet disbelief.

"You still don't understand, do you?"

He reached into his briefcase.

Pulled out a blue folder.

And placed it beside Amelia's medical report.

"This mansion..."

He looked around the room.

"...is no longer yours."

Gasps erupted.

Margaret stared at him.

"What are you talking about?"

Daniel opened the folder.

"The trust Father created before he died."

He turned the first page toward everyone.

"Three months ago, ownership of this estate legally transferred to me."

Margaret's face emptied of color.

"I allowed you to stay here because you were my mother."

He looked at Kevin.

"And because I believed family deserved compassion."

May you like

His eyes hardened.

"I was wrong."
